Parish Church Bad Leonfelden
The late Gothic style of the parish church, founded as a place of worship in 1292, is easily identified today through its network of ribbed vaulting. In the 18th and 19th centuries extensive building changes took place, firstly in 1776 in the Baroque style with side aisles being built on later. In 1892 the great fire in the market town partly destroyed the church and, during reconstruction, the Baroque onion-domed tower was replaced, today’s half round tympanon being incorporated over the main entrance and displaying a bronze relief depicting Jesus Christ healing a blind man. In addition and worthy of note is the relief of the Mount of Olives on the south wall of the church. Pilgrimage Church Maria Schutz am Bründl Its origin in the year 1686 stems from the healing properties of a spring that helped an ill carpenter from Leonfelden to regain his health The great influx of people seeking cures necessitated the construction of a pilgrimage church, the work lasting from 1761 until the middle of 1792 and completed partly in Baroque and partly in Rococo styles. On 15.08.1958 the Bründl Church was elevated to the status of Pax Christi Church (Church of Peace) of Mühlviertel. >> DIOEZESE
